Bergstrom Nutrition Wins Industry Awards
VANCOUVER, Wash. USA, February 21, 2007--Bergstrom Nutrition Inc., the worldwide leader in proprietary manufacturing of MSM, a popular joint health supplement, was recognized recently by its peers with two Nutrition Business Journal Achievement Awards. Nutrition Business Journal is the leading trade publication of the nutritional supplement industry, which grew worldwide to $66 billion last year. The annual awards recognize outstanding achievement in a variety of categories.
Bergstrom was honored for "Scientific Achievement" for funding the largest and most thorough clinical trial to date that showed MSM was effective and safe for knee osteoarthritis. Bergstrom was also recognized for "Educational Initiative" for developing a major online resource for non-commercial, impartial consumer education on MSM, msmguide.com.
Bergstrom Nutrition received "Scientific Achievement" for a randomized, double-blind, placebo- controlled clinical trial of methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) for knee osteoarthritis pain. The trial, which was published in the peer-reviewed medical journal Osteoarthritis and Cartilage in March 2006, studied the efficacy and safety of MSM in 50 patients over age 40 diagnosed with knee osteoarthritis. MSM produced statistically significant decreases in WOMAC pain and physical function impairment without adverse effects. Secondary outcomes included significant reductions in serum homocysteine and urine malondialdehyde. The company described it as the largest and most thorough clinical trial of MSM to date.
Bergstrom Nutrition received "Educational Initiative" for making significant financial investments in a third-party, product-neutral web portal for MSM (msmguide.com).
